Farke claims Norwich have something ?special? planned for Chelsea

Daniel Farke says Norwich will have something “special” planned for their FA Cup third-round replay at Chelsea.

The Canaries head to Stamford Bridge on the back holding the Premier League champions to a goalless draw at Stamford Bridge.

Farke’s men followed that up with a battling 1-0 win at Sky Bet Championship promotion hopefuls Bristol City, who earned great plaudits for their Carabao Cup efforts against Manchester City.

The German believes Norwich will have a free shot at pulling off a shock result in Wednesday’s trip to west London, which will be broadcast live and see the winners at home to Newcastle in round four.

“I’m hoping for another brilliant performance against one of the giants, and we’ll have a special plan for tomorrow,” Farke said at a press conference, as quoted on the club’s official website.

“Hopefully with a really good performance and, if Chelsea aren’t at their very best, then we’ll always have a chance.

“It will be important to keep as much possession as possible, as we don’t want to be running after the ball for 90 minutes – so we have to be brave in our possession and our pressing.”

Chelsea are without a win in the last four matches, which have all been draws and the last three goalless.

Farke, though, accepts Norwich cannot afford to underestimate the challenge ahead.

“They haven’t scored for three games so they will be wanting to show they can score, especially in a home match,” the Canaries boss added.

“They know they have to be focused to beat us after how well we played in the first game, so it’s going to be trickier to be successful – especially as it’s away.

“Chelsea will maybe be focusing on the FA Cup to win a trophy, but we can play without any pressure and enjoy this game. We’re looking forward to it.”

Whatever line-up Chelsea boss Antonio Conte chooses to send out, Farke knows his team must not expect an easy ride at Stamford Bridge,

“They can’t have a weak line-up,” the German added.

“Chelsea played with (Gary) Cahill, (Davide) Zappaccosta, (Antonio) Rudiger, (David) Luiz and Willian in the first game, who are all amazing players.

“I expect them to have a strong squad, and that’s what we’re preparing for.”

Norwich’s new signing Marcus Edwards is not eligible following his loan switch from Tottenham.

Striker Cameron Jerome will not travel as he ties up a move to Derby, while club captain Russell Martin is set for a loan move to Scottish side Rangers.

Paper Talk: Liverpool eye 12m Champ ace; City to land 27m CB

Liverpool look set to beat Tottenham and Southampton to a Norwich star, while Man City are ready to spend £27million to sign a La Liga defender, according to Tuesday’s newspapers.

Liverpool are growing increasingly confident of pushing through a summer move for £10million-rated James Maddison, according to Tuesday’s papers.

The 21-year-old midfielder has been one of the best performers in the Championship this season, having scored five times and weighed in with six assists.

With both Liverpool, Tottenham and Southampton said to be making regular checks on the player, the Daily Express believes the Reds look the most likely to push through a summer swoop for the star, which could amount to £12million.

It’s claimed Liverpool see Maddison as a star of the future but would like to push through a deal for him this month.

However, after last week selling Alex Pritchard to Huddersfield for £11million, the Canaries are hopeful of keeping Maddison until the summer at least.

“Two weeks ago I didn’t have the feeling we would sell Alex but things develop, offers increase and there is a point when the club must make a decision,” Norwich head coach Daniel Farke said.

“You know in this business there can be something stupid at any moment. But right now, from the sporting side they know it is important to keep a key player like James Maddison.

“The only message from this decision should be that before, the financial pressure was not big in this window.

“Now we have sold an important player for a lot of money so there is no pressure to sell another one.

“It takes further pressure away and we are able to keep players like James Maddison.

“I am pretty sure if we get another offer for one of our big players after selling Alex the board would feel we can’t lose a second key player in this moment in the season.

“It means we are more likely to keep the key players together.”

Norwich sign teenage midfielder on loan from Tottenham

Tottenham midfielder Marcus Edwards has joined Norwich on loan until the end of the season, the Championship club have announced.

The 19-year-old has made one first-team appearance for Spurs, coming on as a substitute during an EFL Cup win over Gillingham in 2016.

Canaries boss Daniel Farke told the club’s website: “Marcus is a young player with huge potential.

“He is rated as one of the biggest talents in English football but will need some time to adapt to a new surrounding and to the physical game in the Championship.”

Edwards said on Norwich City TV: “I’m really excited and can’t wait to help the team.

“When I spoke to the manager, he made me feel welcome and explained how he wanted to play.”

Edwards is ineligible for the club’s FA Cup third-round replay with Chelsea on Wednesday.

Huddersfield complete 11m deal for Norwich star Pritchard

Huddersfield have completed the signing of Alex Pritchard from Norwich for an undisclosed fee, the Premier League club have announced.

The Terriers have agreed personal terms with Pritchard after an improved undisclosed bid for the 24-year-old had been accepted earlier in the week.

“We’re delighted to announce that @pritch_93 joins #htafc from @NorwichCityFC for an undisclosed free, signing a three and a half year deal,” Huddersfield revealed on Twitter.

Pritchard could make his Terriers debut in Saturday’s home Premier League game against West Ham.

“Huddersfield Town has today completed the permanent transfer of Alex Pritchard from Sky Bet Championship side Norwich City,” read a club statement.

“The 24-year-old moves to Yorkshire for an undisclosed fee, putting pen to paper on a contract running until the summer of 2021, with a further year’s option in Town’s favour.”

The Terriers are reported to have paid between £10million and £14m.

Head coach David Wagner said: “I’m very happy to be able to welcome Alex to Huddersfield Town.

“He is exactly the type of player that we like to work with at this club. Alex is a young British player who arrives as one of the top performers in the Sky Bet Championship and with a desire to prove himself in the Premier League.

“Now we will work hard with him to give him every possibility of being a success for us in the top division.

“I’d like to thank (chairman) Dean Hoyle and the board for being as supportive as ever in this transfer window and making this transfer possible.”

Pritchard progressed through West Ham’s academy before switching to Tottenham aged 16 in 2009 and, after loan spells at Peterborough and Swindon, made his Premier League debut as a substitute in the final game of the 2013-14 season.

The former England Under-21 international spent the following season on loan at Brentford and made his second and final appearance for Tottenham early in the 2015-16 campaign.

After a brief loan spell at West Brom, Pritchard completed a permanent move to Norwich for a reported fee of £8m in August 2016.

He made a total of 43 first-team appearances for Norwich, scoring eight goals, and becomes Huddersfield’s second January signing following the arrival of Terence Kongolo on loan from Monaco.

Both Pritchard and Kongolo could feature against West Ham, who currently sit four places and two points behind Huddersfield in a congested bottom half of the table.

The significance of another three points and a possible fifth home league win of the season for the Terriers is not lost on striker Laurent Depoitre.

“The game on Saturday is very important because it’s against a direct opponent and it’s at home, so we have to win this game,” the Belgian said.

“We know against the big teams it’s difficult to take points, so we have to take points against teams around us in the table.”

Huddersfield turned in a below-par display when beaten 2-0 at the London Stadium in September.

“We have to show something better than in the first game against them because we were not good enough,” Depoitre added.

Liverpool, Tottenham in battle to land Norwich midfield sensation

Liverpool and Tottenham are reportedly keen on signing Norwich’s England Under-21 attacking midfielder James Maddison.

The 21-year-old has been excellent for the Canaries this season, scoring six times in the Championship and also providing five assists.

However, the report in the Daily Mirror claims that any potential suitors will have to wait until the summer to land the player as Norwich are already cashing in on fellow midfielder Alex Pritchard – who looks set to join Huddersfield for £11million.

The report goes on to state that Liverpool and Spurs aren’t the only clubs showing an interest in Maddison, with Southampton also keen along with Championship pacesetters Wolves – who had the chance to sign the player in 2016.

Maddison only joined the Canaries two years ago from Coventry and spent last season on loan at Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen.
